Day 1. Casa Rural, Baztan  


Arrive Bilbao.  Drive to Baztan 1hr45.  On the way we’ll stop in the coastal city San Sebastian famous for its tapas, grand buildings and the beautiful beach and bay of La Concha.  Then we’ll continue to our Casa Rural in the Baztan Valley.  This 16th Century house is a wonderful place to stay set in a typical Basque village and surrounded by green mountains and forest.  Dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 2. Casa Rural, Baztan 


Easy circular walk from the village along the old paths to a 5000 year old dolmen (burial chamber),  around a beautiful wooded valley.  The views and atmosphere are really special in this rural paradise where time stands still.  In the afternoon we’ll visit the town of Elizondo.  There’s an interesting museum and some great cake shops!   Dinner in the Casa.

Day 3. Casa Rural, Baztan


A gentle hike just over the border in France.  Afterwards we’ll visit the historic and very picturesque walled town of San Jean de Pied de Port which is, for many, the starting point for the Camino de Santiago pilgrim route.  Dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 4.  Casa Rural, Zumaia

Drive to the coast  and visit the pretty resort of St Jean de Luz - a typical French Basque fishing port/resort - there’s a nice coastal hike.  Afterwards continue into Spain to our next casa rural near Zumaia.   Dinner in a Zumaia restaurant. 

Day 5.  Casa Rural, Zumaia  


Hike along the cliffs from Zumaia - fabulous views and remarkable geology – the layered rock formations here are fascinating and very beautiful.  Picnic on the beach.  Dinner at the Casa.

Day 6.  Casa Rural, Zumaia


We’ll follow the Northern Camino de Santiago along an ancient track  including traces of a Roman road  from Zumaia to the fishing harbour at Getaria.  The route is through the Txakoli wine region and we’ll stop in to a winery for a visit and taste of this light, dry, white wine along the way.  

Day 7. Casa Rural, Urdaibai
