DAY 2 Hotel, Santa Cruz B D
You follow an ancient path via some tiny isolated villages
and up to a chapel renowned for the miraculous powers of its
patron Santa Orosia. Even if the saint doesn't work a
miracle for you the views from the high plateau are miraculous
enough!
DAY 3 Hotel, Santa Cruz B D
A zig zag route up through a superb forest to the top of the Peña Oroel with panoramic views of the high Pyrenees to the north and the foothills to the south. Descend the southern face of this emblematic mountain via a little mountain chapel to an old farm where you are picked up by taxi to return to your hotel.
DAY 4 Hotel, Santa Cruz B D
Today you follow a beautiful variant of the Camino de Santiago
(pilgrim route of St James) to San Juan de La Peña
- an amazing, atmospheric monastery where the kings of Aragón
were buried and where the Holy Grail was kept for centuries. Great
foothill scenery and plenty of history.
DAY 5 Casa Rural, Riglos B D
A great walk through varied scenery starting from a tiny village at the base of the Sierra de Santo Domingo up to a long deserted village really in the middle of nowhere! From here you cross to the western face of the Sierra over a col shaped like a W. You descend through rugged scenery of rocks, woodland and mountain pasture to a stunning village built under high cliffs. Transfer to your Casa Rural in the lovely village of Riglos.
DAY 6 Casa Rural, Riglos B D
A wonderful circular route around the famous Mallos de Riglos whose vertical cliffs are the haunt of vultures and climbers. This route takes you around the cliffs and up to the top of the sierra for yet more spectacular views!

B
Combine a visit to the Castillo de Loarre (where part of the
Ridley Scott film Kingdom of Heaven was filmed) with a short
walk in the Sierra de Loarre. The castle is the best
preserved Romanesque castle in Europe and overlooks the Plains
of Huesca whose landscape has hardly changed since it was
built 1000 years ago. The holiday finishes at lunchtime. |
